Er ließ aus der Erde alle Arten von Bäumen wachsen. Es waren prächtige Bäume und ihre Früchte schmeckten gut. Dorthin brachte Gott den Menschen, den er gemacht hatte. In der Mitte des Gartens wuchsen zwei besondere Bäume: der Baum des Lebens, dessen Früchte Unsterblichkeit schenken, und der Baum der Erkenntnis, dessen Früchte das Wissen verleihen, was für den Menschen gut und was für ihn schlecht ist.
